daniel
Baltzer
was born August 28,1971,
in Columbus, Ohio. As a child, daniel coped with his humble and
often violent circumstances with his imagination. His health issues
made him an outsider among his peers and often kept him from attending
school. daniel gave great attention to play and used his imagination
to contextualize his circumstances into puppet-filled worlds.
During his High School years living near Dayton, Ohio, and working
for a local newspaper as a photographer, he observed life through
a lens. In the summer before his senior year, daniel was arrested
and his perspective changed forever. In the following months, he
attended his first visual art class during his senior year in High
School. This gave daniel a new way of engaging the world and using
his creativity.
In the following years daniel pursued art at Taylor University,
Upland, Indiana. Upon graduation he moved back to Columbus, Ohio,
and began creating art and teaching art to kids in an urban recreation
facility.
His art centered on exploration of new visual vocabulary to express
human responses to the world and changes of a postmodern society.
His became fascinated with layered imagery both flat and dimensional
as well as the human figure as vernacular of an evolving visual
vocabulary. daniel had a number of group shows and solo exhibitions
in Columbus before moving to New York City in August of 2002, where
he now resides and continues to work.
