Melinda
Horsey
was born in
Nairobi, Kenya on July 26, 1976, to American missionary parents.
She spent her childhood soaking up the smells, sounds and textures
in the land east of the Sahara. In 1985, the Horsey family moved
to Germany and lived between France and Switzerland, nestled in
a valley surrounded by the Black Forest. When her family relocated
seven years later to the United States, Melinda decided to gather
memories and influences. Building upon her recollection she began
to write and paint. In 2000, she graduated from Taylor University
with a BA in Art and a minor in Psychology. Now she resides in Massachusetts
and is a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts degree in Art Education
with a concentration in museum education. Her medium of choice is
encaustic (pigmented wax) painting because it allows for the flexibility
of incorporating myriad techniques. She also works full-time at
Boston University as the visual arts librarian for the School of
Visual Arts.
