“In the seventh year the land is to have a Sabbath of rest, a Sabbath to the Lord.”
Leviticus 25:4
God told the farmers of the Old Testament to let the land rest from any harvesting, planting or pruning every seventh year. When we set aside time to rest, we will not be punished for time away from work, but blessed. We are told to give every seventh day to Him, to set it aside as holy. It takes a lot of trust to stop trying to provide for ourselves, but when we are obedient, we are rewarded with a closer relationship to Christ. As a consequence, we are replenished and rejuvenated and can gain a clearer perspective when we put work at a distance. God will use our time of rest to produce fruit as He did when farmers obeyed and rested their land.
